The Bristan group is one of the largest bathroom and bathroom
accessories supply companies in the UK. To meet growing consumer demand
a new distribution warehouse 150 x 130 x 16m high was built with open
areas, a fully racked portion and a triple mezzanine section. Large
dock leveler doors are fitted along the whole length of the building.
The facility required a flexible heating and ventilation system.
In
addition, the building insurer specified the installation of a
specialized sprinkler system. This involved installing a false ceiling
at 15m height and flat panels below the duct work.
As
the building is heated to 18 degrees centigrade throughout, running
costs were of particular concern to the client. The Jetflo induction
nozzle system was selected to meet the brief as it supplies air evenly
throughout the space and has negligible stratification. Ductwork is
routed to give ventilation to the racked aisles and the open spaces and
droppers are installed with distribution headers for the mezzanine
areas. Different nozzles are selected for the various areas and the
system is self-balancing.
A
single centrally positioned air-handling unit is sited in a convenient
position for maintenance. This includes an air mixing plenum, filters,
attenuator, an indirect fired gas burner and fan section. The burner is
fully modulating and is complete with stainless steel flue. A fully
integrated control system was included and a specified noise level of
45dba was achieved. The client was particularly pleased with the simple
layout and function of the system and the fact that maintenance is
centrally positioned.
The
client was extremely pleased with the low running costs noting that the
system can run on re-circulation for large parts of the winter as the
system uses free heat from the building, and the gas heater only cuts
in during cooler periods.
